Water main breaks in Los Angeles
A 6-inch water main broke in the San Fernando Valley last week near Hartsook Street and Bellingham Avenue, east of Laurel Canyon Boulevard and south of Magnolia Boulevard More. A fire truck was responding to an incident when the street caved-in, creating a sink hole, which almost completely swallowed the fire engine. None of the firefighters were injured, but the restoration process began ASAP. Crews even had to dry out water damaged paper items.
The fire truck had to be removed before shutting off the water to the main.
A few days before this incident, in Studio City, a 64-inch water main broke. The flooding caused the evacuation of many homes and businesses, including many popular clothing stores and restaurants in locations such as Ventura Boulevard and Coldwater Canyon. Restoration repairs lasted through Friday as streets had to be cleaned, buildings restored, and houses dried.
