Oregon, known for its green landscapes and conservation efforts, has to battle fierce forest fires on an annual basis. To try to help with this issue, former President George W. Bush’s administration suggested thinning trees in the areas around the 102 cabins of Diamond Lake, Ore. Thinning trees around cabins would help prevent the loss of homes in the area, but tress would also be thinned in the back-country.

An Amtrak bus caught fire on I-5 yesterday north of Los Angeles. Fortunately, no one aboard the bus was injured.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. However, the blaze caught near-by brush on fire. Approximately 10 acres were burned. Northbound traffic was at a stand-still while fire crews responded.

Officials for The National Interagency Fire Center have just released the “2009 Wildland Fire Outlook“. The verdict: a busy wildfire season for the states of California, Washington, Arizona, and New Mexico.
