Hurricane Ike Victims to Receive Extra Benefits

FEMA released a statement this weekend saying some flood insurance policy holders that were affected by Hurricane Ike may be eligible to receive up to an extra $30,000 in benefits. This money would be awarded in addition to any claims made as a result of the storm.

Be Prepared at Work

Business owners are not the only ones who should think about how to be prepared for an emergency at work. The American Red Cross states: “If you commute to work, make sure you know alternative routes and carry appropriate supplies such as a disaster supplies kit in your car and a compact kit on public transportation…The best way to make sure you and your place of business is safe is to be prepared before disaster strikes.”

Space Heater Causes Fire

A small church in Lawrence, Massachusetts was destroyed on Christmas morning by a fire that was caused by a small space heater. The popular Latino church, Iglesia Nueva Jerusalem, also had a small community thrift shop. The church did not have the heater turned on when the fire started, but the heater was left plugged in to the outlet. Officials, however, are still investigating the incident.
