Major Disaster Declared in the State of Nebraska
On May 30, FEMA announced that Nebraska will be provided federal disaster aid in addition to their state and locally supplied relief aid. This announcement comes after the area suffered significant damage as a result of severe storms, tornado and flooding in April 2008.
The FEMA Aid Program consists of payments of approximately 75% of the costs for repairing or replacing damaged public facilities (roads, bridges, schools, etc.), removing debris, protecting property and public health, and hazard mitigation projects to reduce long-term risk to life and property by another natural disaster.
Flood waters can do some of the worst damage to home and office materials. Many smaller items can be salvaged using do-it-yourself methods. When the damage is severe however, it is recommended that a professional assist to assure safety to the home or office owner as well as to better restore the documents to vitally needed.
